I have many handwritten Family Group Sheets. I have got to finish my current work-in-progress, a biography of Edward and Pegeen Fitzgerald so I can get back to family genealogy.
This is absolutely brilliant Jenny! Been there and done most of everything that you talk about. What I miss is the writing and receiving of letters rather than emails. Back when I started,if you shared a common surname with someone you had to write to them and enclose a stamped addressed envelope then wait weeks, or even months for a reply. A lovely trip down memory lane, thank you.
It was a fun trip to make. Oh yes, the SAE or postal coupons were the norm back in the day. We needed coupons when writing overseas as we couldn’t always purchase international stamps or they were expensive. If we knew anyone travelling, we’d get them to buy stamps for us. I still remember receiving my first email from the uk. I woke up the next morning and there was a reply. Amazing! So quick! Hah!
For those of us in an older age bracket, this is a nice summary of how our approach to Genealogy has evolved over the years. I am sure this is fairly typical of many of us, give or take a few details here and there. I feel like I have been on a trip down memory lane.
It was just a quick article that took me way down memory lane. Away from what I had planned for the day. Even those early computer days were quite revealing. I won’t go into our first attempt at simple programming and the excitement when a ball bounced back and forth across the screen!! Then how I attended MSDOS lessons which preceded the advent of windows. Oh my! And now we have AI. Will we look back and a few years and go Oh my!?

I do miss that excitement of waiting. I obviously appreciate the speed and access we have today but everything is too instant
